My dad joined the Force as a replacement! Dad was born in the bush in Grassmere just outside Huntsville Ontario, Canada! Populations 10 families! At 16 he tryed to go but was picked up and returned to my grandmother as my granddad was already over in England on Home Guard as they called it!
At 17 my grandmother signed for dad and he was off and joined the 48 Highlands and went to England first where my grandfather tried to claim him so he would be with granddad for the rest of the war! My dad went to his CO and asked for a transfer and was granted it when asked "why"? Dad said to the CO when my mom looks him in the eyes and asked what his dad did during the war in England? Dad was more than happy to answer her with "I don't know as I hardly saw him"! Transfer granted and he ended up in North Africa as best as I can find out! Dad was fighting for 2 years before joining the Force! But the Force was all he ever talked about!
I sure wish I knew more but I was 35 years old before dad even talked about it and he never talked much! I do have a couple of things and some not for the general public! Boys talk you know! Funny thing is, dad joined the Force and was shot at but never hit! When the Force disbanded most of the Canadians went back to the old unit and there dad was hit twice!
One day I will sit down and write more!
