After Action Report First Special Service Force, 6-3 Camp Arthur, IN I had a great time! SGT Dolan and S/SGT Adkins were in attendance. We left St Louis at 3am, great sunrise, ( I have a collection of sunrise photos), arrived in due course and went straight to registration. Camp Arthur is a very good site. Many cabins, camp grounds with clean pit toilets, bunk house with kitchen, lake and some really good terrain to play in. This is only my second event this year, but I really enjoyed it. Lots of movement, at least most of the time. We used radios which helped. Oh ya, I was the Allied Commander, we had 6 Germans, 10 Poles, who fought with the Germans, and about 25 Allied, with two jeeps with .30's, and two weapons carriers and one working anti tank gun, it was fantastic, thank you Jon Shoop. The krauts had three gas MG42's, and one kubal with one MG. Besides the Anti tank Gun, there were two other .30 machineguns, 1 BAR, two Mortars and a grenade launcher, ya we had a little fun. This is going to be a tough year as I already have an unbeatable war story, I hope it only gets better. As we were pushing the krauts back towards the Dam, we encountered major resistance from three well concealed MG positions. While the main body applied pressure the the enemy's MLR, an element of the Force made an end run to the right of the position. As our patrol moved right down a wash, we reached a depression of wooded area and we proceded to make a wide arc to the right and then looping back to the left we found ourselves approaching the base of a 40ft incline which led to a plateau, and with luck, one of the MG posts was right in front of us. Joel moved to my right, as I moved up the incline right under the MG nest, and Andy supported my left, just as Joel took out the Mg's rear guard, I lobed a grenade into the nest, and Joel and myself both finished off the guy. As Joel took a hit, I moved forward and almost fell into the next MG nest, and I took it out with ease while Andy secured the other MG. What can I say! There was Vendor space, bunk houses, working kitchen, they provided breakfast, and a great lunch, and soft drinks, the food was great, hats of to SGT Don. It was good to see the members of FSSF 2-2, SGT Don, little Dick, Dick Pate and Joel Scherer. Dick Pate, your right, the next time we are all together, lets all play together like in the "old " days, the Force lives on! S/SGT Adkins, G.A. FSSF 6-3 Commanding | |
