Hi FSSF family and friends,
For those of you who have not had a
chance to contact your senators or representatives yet to ask them to support
passing bill S.1460 to give the FSSF the Congressional Gold Medal, here is a
website that does it automatically for you. All you have to do is click on the
"support" button on the right side of the page where it says "send your senator
a letter" and enter your zip code, name and address! You will have to create an
account, but it is free. You can also write your own text into the "letter"
which is at the bottom of the "write your letter" screen.
Obviously our friends north of the border cant do this, but perhaps you can
pass it on to appropriate people.
Please pass this on to all our FSSF friends!
Best regards

Honorable Tony Clement and Honorable Norm
Miller
I am
writing this note in order to make you aware of the bill that is trying to be
put through the US Congress in order to have the Congressional Gold Medal
present to the First Special Service Force that served during WW2 in many
theaters of war! This Elite group of men where from both Canada & US and my
dad Private Myrle "T " Woolman was one, along with 4 other men just from the
town of Huntsville and your riding! Along with that if you go in to the
Huntsville Legion you will see and plaque on the wall in the front door way
dedicated to these 5 Huntsville men!
I am not sure if they will receive the
medal or not? But Senator Max Baucus of Montana where this group was formed is
sure looking for all the help he can get before it is to late and we loss the
last remaining members of the FSSF.
Please help if you can! I look forward to
hearing from you both on this matter and thanks for what you
do!
Best Regards
Steve Woolman

Good morning Mr.
Woolman,
Mr. Miller will be delivering a Statement today in the
Legislature at approximately 1pm.
Mr. Miller would be
pleased to send you a copy of Hansard, the official record of daily proceedings
of the house as well as forward a copy to the US Congress, perhaps to Senator
Baucus.
Would you kindly provide your mailing
address?
If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not
hesitate to contact Mr. Miller's office.
Thank you.

We received word last night that the House version of the bill to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the First Special Service Force (collectively) was introduced on December 23. The Senate bill introduced last August is bill S 1460 and the House bill is H.R 3767. It is time for us to contact our Congressional Delegations asking them to sponsor these bills. Send a letter to your Senator asking for support on Senate Bill 1460. The web site is http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-s1460/show. To send a letter to a Representative in the House the address is http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-h3767/show. We need 2/3 support from both the Senate and House to award the CGM to the FSSF. | |

Hello Family and
friends,
My father's WWII Army
unit, The First Special Service Force (FSSF) has 2 bills which have been
introduced into congress which are trying to award them the Congressional Gold
Medal for their service. Perhaps I have contacted you already and if this is a
repeat email please forgive me.
For those of you
unfamiliar with the FSSF, it was the very first special forces unit ever
established. About 30% of the men were KIA and they suffered a casualty rate of
about 130%. They were made up of half Canadians Half Americans and were trained
for winter and mountain warfare. They were trained to parachute, mountain climb,
ski, live in winter conditions, martial arts, demolitions, amphibious assault,
and they put all of these skills to use from the Aleutians islands, to the
mountains of Italy, Anzio beachhead, the first unit into Rome, the spearhead of
the invasion of southern France and fighting into the French Alps. The modern
day special forces and seal teams owe their lineage to this very
unit.
Many men gave 4 years
of their lives towards this endeavor. Too many men gave their entire lives
towards this endeavor.
Please use the links
below to let your congress people know that this unit is very deserving of this
citation. We need 2/3 of all senators and congress people to COSPONSOR this
bill, not just support it or vote for
it. We would like the bills passed by April, so that the unit may be presented
the medal at their reunion in Wash DC in Sept.
I would appreciate if
you would pass this info on to other family or friends who may feel the same as
I do about what these men did for us.
thank
you.

In the
Spearhead Rob Schober gives a web address where you can send a letter to your
Senator asking for support on Senate Bill 1460. The web site is http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-s1460/show. To send a letter to a
Representative in the House the address is http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-h3767/show. Follow the instructions Rob gave on page 7 of the Spearhead. We
need 2/3 support from both the Senate and House to award the CGM to the FSSF.
Our plan is to have the necessary support as soon as possible and have the award
presentation at the reunion.
